What sizes of shipping containers are available?
We offer three standard sizes: 10-foot, 20-foot, and 40-foot containers. Each size is available in standard height (8 feet 6 inches) or high cube (9 feet 6 inches). The 20-foot container is our most popular size, providing 160 square feet of storage space. The 40-foot container offers 320 square feet, ideal for larger storage needs or construction projects. We occasionally have specialty sizes like 45-foot and 53-foot containers.
What are the exact dimensions?
A 20-foot standard container measures externally 20 x 8 x 8.5 feet with interior dimensions of approximately 19.3 x 7.7 x 7.9 feet. The 40-foot standard container measures 40 x 8 x 8.5 feet externally with interior dimensions of 39.5 x 7.7 x 7.9 feet. High cube versions add one foot of height. Door openings are approximately 7.7 feet wide by 7.5 feet tall for standard and 8.5 feet tall for high cube.
What is the difference between new and used containers?
New containers, also called one-trip containers, have made only a single journey from the manufacturer. They feature pristine paint, minimal wear, no dents or rust, and come with manufacturer warranties. Used containers have been in shipping service and show signs of use including surface rust, minor dents, patches, and faded paint, but remain wind and watertight. Used containers cost 30-50% less than new ones and are perfect for storage applications.
How do I know the container quality?
Every container undergoes our multi-point inspection process. We provide detailed condition reports with photographs showing all sides of the container. Our grading system clearly identifies the condition level: Grade A being like-new, Grade B showing minimal wear, and Grade C having more cosmetic issues but remaining fully functional. All containers sold are guaranteed wind and watertight.
How much do shipping containers cost?
Container prices vary based on size, condition, and market factors. Generally, used 20-foot containers range from $2,000 to $3,500, while new ones cost $3,500 to $5,000. Used 40-foot containers typically cost $2,500 to $4,500, with new ones at $4,500 to $7,000. These prices do not include delivery. Current market conditions, steel prices, and availability affect pricing. Contact us for current quotes.
Is financing available?
Yes, we offer multiple financing options through trusted lending partners. Terms range from 12 to 84 months with competitive interest rates based on credit qualification. The application process is quick, with most approvals within 24-48 hours. Both personal and business financing are available with no prepayment penalties.
How long does delivery take?
Standard delivery takes 3-7 business days from order confirmation. Actual timing depends on your location, container availability, and seasonal demand. Rush delivery can often be arranged for an additional fee. We provide tracking information and coordinate delivery appointments to ensure someone is present to receive the container.
What do I need for delivery?
Your site needs level, firm ground capable of supporting the container weight, approximately 100 feet of straight clearance for the delivery truck, 10 feet of width for access, and no overhead obstacles below 15 feet. We recommend placing containers on blocks or railroad ties for proper drainage. Someone 18 or older must be present to direct placement and sign for delivery.
Can containers be modified?
Yes, we offer extensive modification services or you can modify containers yourself. Common modifications include adding doors and windows, installing electrical systems, adding insulation and climate control, creating interior partitions, installing shelving systems, and custom paint. Note that modifications may affect the container warranty and structural integrity should be considered.
Do modifications void the warranty?
Modifications typically void the structural warranty in modified areas but not the entire container. We can perform modifications that maintain certain warranty protections. If you plan modifications, discuss this when ordering so we can recommend the best container for your project.
Do I need permits for a shipping container?
Permit requirements vary significantly by location and intended use. Many areas do not require permits for temporary storage containers on private property. Permanent placement often requires building permits. Modified containers used as offices or living spaces typically need permits and must meet building codes. Check with your local building department before ordering. We can provide specifications to help with permit applications.
Are there HOA restrictions?
Many homeowners associations have rules about shipping containers. Some prohibit them entirely, others allow temporary placement, and some permit them if screened from view. Review your HOA covenants before ordering. We can provide letters explaining temporary use for renovations or moving if needed.
Can I return a container?
We offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee on unmodified containers in original condition. Returns must be requested within 30 days of delivery. Return shipping costs depend on the reason for return. See our complete Return Policy for details.
What warranty is included?
New containers come with a one-year warranty covering structural integrity and weather-tightness. Used containers include a 90-day wind and watertight guarantee. Warranties cover defects but not damage from misuse, modifications, or normal wear.
How long do containers last?
With proper maintenance, shipping containers last 25-30 years or more. Containers used for stationary storage often last longer than those in active shipping. Regular maintenance includes lubricating door hardware, touching up rust spots, ensuring proper drainage, and checking door seals annually.
How do I prevent rust?
Shipping containers are made from Corten steel that forms a protective rust layer. To minimize rust, keep the container off the ground for airflow, ensure water drains away from the base, touch up deep scratches with rust-preventive paint, and remove any accumulated debris from the roof.
